The Glam Era / An American in London

The Karl Stoecker 'Glam Era' Photos is a large collection of photographs most of these photos have not been seen in over 36 years.

These 70's Pop Art photographs play a key role in representing London's Glam Era capturing the essence of that famed moment in pop culture.

The collection is split into 3 sections-- The 'Glam Pin-ups', Amanda Lear 'The Allen Jones Series' and Rock & Roll covers including outtakes of the early Roxy Music albums.

The 'Glam Pin-ups' is a private project Karl was shooting as a 'wink' to the 40's Vargas pin-ups. Part of the glory of these photographs is the seamless collaboration with his contemporaries. The models are fantastically styled with 40's retro inspired fashions desinged by famed British designer Antony Price, and beautifully modeled by Gala 'it girl' model of the day who was favored by Ossie Clark.

Shot from 1972 to 1974 on St Michaels Street, London, in a studio over a garage, the vintage Glam Rock Pin-ups are a phenomenal collection of all things British-- music, fashion, it girls, polka dots, leather, glitter, satin & lipstick.

The 'Allen Jones Series' is modeled by singer Amanda Lear with brilliant make-up by famed make-up artist Pierre Larouche, most famous for the 'lightning bolt' make-up on Bowie's Aladin Sane. Make-up is extremely important to this series as the photos are based on Allen Jones' paintings-- Amanda's red painted legs in the 'SAVE SALE' photos with gold glitter on her back.

The 'Rock & Roll Album Cover Series' features the first Roxy Music cover and features Kari Ann, Karl's first pin-up model. The second Roxy Music album cover 'Stranded' features Matylin Cole, Penthouse Playmate of the Year. The third Roxy Music cover 'For Your Pleasue' features Amanda Lear. The series also includes the infamous shot of Ernie from Lou Reed's 'Transformer'.

Karl Stoecker-- born in Brooklyn-- lived and woked in London from 1966 to 1975. After the 'Glam Rock Era' he moved back to New York where he worked through the 80's and 90's in still photography for YSL, Lancome, Oscar de la Renta, etc-- while continuing to shoot his erotic art photos.

He is married to former fashion model and now proprieter of Posh Vintage, Patti Stoecker, with whom he has 2 daughters, Sheena and Samantha, and from previous marriages, sons Chris, Jesse and Luke Flynn. He currently lives and works in South Beach Miami.
